VOLE and TROLL Cover, by Iza Trapani
Meet mischievous Vole and grouchy old Troll. Vole wants to cross the bridge to where the literal and proverbial grass is greener, but grumpy old Troll lives under the bridge and offers two options: pay the toll or be eaten.

Vole and Troll page 6 and 7
Vole outwits Troll three times by distracting him with clever, interactive songs (which will be quite familiar to young children and caregivers). But Troll catches on eventually. Does Vole end up as a tasty casserole in Troll's bowl? In the end, the pair lays aside their differences and embraces their common love of music.

“A harmonious twist on an old favorite with bonus action songs.” - Kirkus Reviews

Coming September 12, 2017 E-I-E-I-O!

Kirkus reviews calls it “a rousing romp…welcome at storytime.”

Please welcome Gabe and Goon into the book world!

“…The Muppet-like Goon is both goofy and adorable, and Trapani’s rhyming text bounces blithely along.
A familiar message, but also a crucial and timely one, charmingly presented.” - Kirkus Reviews

This was the first in my nursery rhyme extension series and has sold over a million copies by my primary publisher alone! Starting off the celebration, Charlesbridge is offering, to teachers and librarians, an extra 10% on this book- and all my titles- and for all of 2013! Here is a PDF with the details.

Please stay in touch, both here and on my blog as we will have other fun activities, giveaways, etc. Thanks!

This January, I also had the honor of being featured on Eric Van Raepenbusch's wonderful blog: Happy Birthday Author.

He came up with amazing activities for 9 of my books, and is kind enough to share them with everyone! Please check out the post and see pictures of these activities in action. And here is the downloadable PDF. I only ask that you give Eric credit when you use the activities, as he has done a wonderful thing.

A black bear has been sighted and heading to a bookstore near you!

The book is now available! An early review from Kirkus says:

Seasons and senses and bears, oh my!...
will engage young readers and singers...
A fine addition to the storytime shelf.

Last Fall's premiere of Black Bear's Hudson Valley Tale was a great success! Both children and adults gave the show rave reviews! I will keep you informed of upcoming performances.

Black Bear's Hudson Valley Tale is a story that I wrote. It is about a bear who lives in the Catskill mountains and has a big adventure that brings him to the Hudson River valley. It is also a seasonal story, celebrating our wonderful mountains, the Hudson River and surrounding valley.

The story was set to a terrific musical score by David Gluck of the group, Madera Vox- a classical/crossover quintet. They have worked with a theatrical choreographer, Marleen Pennison, to create a spectacular children's musical. David Gluck is the composer/percussionist, Nicole Golay is the oboist, Sylvia Buccelli is the pianist, Cornelia McGiver is the basoonist and Kelly Ellenwood is the soprano and narrator. They are all amazing performers and the show is engaging, entertaining and both melancholy and side splitting funny!

CDs with the full musical score and narration of the tale are now available. To purchase CDs or to find out more about this program, go to :

I am very excited to introduce my new series- Rufus and Friends/Rhyme Time, which came out in July 2008. Rufus is a Dachshund
(sausage dog). His dog friends are Stella, Tucker, Lulu and Mops. In this book, Rufus and his pack of pals put on a play, in which they act out some fun rhymes. These are all traditional rhymes that I have extended with a verse or more of my own words.
The poems all have playful language and many are tongue twisters. And there is a surprise treat- that I will not give away! I had a blast writing these poems, creating the characters and illustrating this book. I hope you will get a chance to read it!

Reviews | Rufus and Friends/Rhyme Time
Traditional Poems extended and illustrated by Iza Trapani 2008

Kirkus: “...Trapani is a staple for young children. Don't miss this one.”

School Library Journal: “...priceless facial expressions...Children will ask for repeated readings as they search for the pictures again and again.”
